Boffin Projects!

We had great fun today when Sam from Boffin projects came into class to teach us all about sounds (our new science topic!)

We found out all about how vibrations make sounds, what makes sounds high pitched and how to make loud sounds. We all got to be part of the experiments and we learned lots!

Viking Longships

In the final week of the half term, Class 4 made their own Viking Longships! We designed them ourselves and each pair made a step by step guide on how to make their ship. What did you like the most about making the Longships? What can you tell me about the features of a Viking Longship?

The children will continue learning about Vikings after half term, including a trip to York in the second week back.

National Media Museum – 24th May 2016

In the final week of the half-term, Class 4 went on an amazing trip to the National Media Museum in Bradford. In the morning, the children went on a guided TV production tour, where they got to explore the exciting world of television, including becoming actors and cameramen themselves! In the afternoon, the children went to the Kodak Gallery for a ‘Lights, Camera, Action’ talk, which focussed on photography. The children then had free time at the end to explore the Games Lounge, Animation Gallery and Magic Factory. Class 4: what was your favourite part of the day, and why? What did you learn during the day? Please keep checking the blog as more photos of the day will be uploaded shortly.

Evaporation and Condensation!

Class 4 have been learning all about states of matter, and in our final two sessions the focus was on evaporation and condensation. Class 4 had lots of fun trying to dry Ziggy’s clothes ready for his birthday party!! We had a selection of equipment and resources around the classroom and had to think of our own plan to dry the clothes in time! Did anyone manage it? How did you do it, and what would you do differently next time??

Skipton Music Festival

On Friday 11th March, Class 4 joined Class 3 to take part in the 2016 Skipton Music Festival. The annual festival takes place in March at Skipton Town Hall. This year there was a big crowd and the highly anticipated performances were a joy to behold. St. Matthew’s were first on stage and set the tone for a competitive event. The highly respected adjudicator complemented the children of St Matthew’s for their excellent appearance, and the way in which the children sang in harmony & projected their voices. I hope all the children that took part found the experience as enjoyable as the audience undoubtedly did! Please leave a comment below on your thoughts of the competition!

eSafety Workshop – 2nd February 2016

As you will be aware, eSafety is becoming an increasingly crucial aspect of a child’s education, as many children now have access to the internet. As well as the benefits, it is important we learn about the possible dangers the internet can bring, and Class 4 & 5 have been doing exactly that! On Tuesday we took part in an eSafety workshop, and at the end of the day we performed in front of the whole school! It was both informative and fun. If you couldn’t make the performance, here are some photos of the day.

Class 4: what was your favourite part of the day, and what did you learn?

Anglo-Saxon Settlements

Class 4 have spent two Tuesday afternoons creating their Anglo-Saxon settlements. We cut up cereal boxes and used wood, straw, card, different types of paper, cocktail sticks, cotton wool and lollipop sticks to create our settlements. Don’t they look pretty!
